hanson was awesome and I MET BEN JELEN!!
07.29.04 (12:41 pm) [edit]
hahahahaha. well i just had a freaking blast in nashville for the hanson concert. too bad it was so short!
well, for a couple months now ive been carrying on about this man:

this is ben jelen. he opened for hanson and he is the most perfect man on earth. well i met him in the nashville airport!! i got his autograph and he asked me what my favorite song on the album was. then he said hed play it for me!! hahaha. i was so pissed though cause i didnt have a camera. we had just got off the plane and i hadnt bought one yet.
heres a scan of his autograph:

well it turns out i see him again outside the venue before the show. there were a few girls talking to him. by that time i had a camera, so i walked up to him to ask him for a picture. i was like "hey im the crazy girl from the airport" hahaha. and he looks at me and smiles and says "oh yeah!". so i tell him i have a camera now and ask if he'll get a picture with me and he says yes. i thanked him and when i was about to walk away, he says in his slightly british accent, "we're still gonna play falling down for you tonight". and by that time, im like a puddle of jelly. but will you know it, the freaking picture didnt turn out! something was wrong with the film and this is all i got:

grrrrrrr. oh well. im still on cloud 9 :) i know im like a cute guy slut and i think everyone is hot, but let me tell you, ben jelen is freaking gorgeous. as beautiful as he is in his pictures, hes 10,000 times hotter in person. his smile is to die for. and hes got that semi accent and that eastern european look. ahhhhhhhh. im such a teeny bopper. 8) check out track 8 on his album. thats the song he played for me :D
needless to say, hanson rocked. they always put on a great show and i always have a blast. i think its such a shame that people dont realize how talented they really are. they got a bad rap cause they put their first album out when they were kids, so of course it was kinda cheesy. well they are all grown up now, and they have the merits of fine poprock musicians. and they are superb showman. everyone was on their feet dancing and having a great time. they played Mmmbop, and i was 12 again :)
cant wait til next year! ill be front row, center 8)

im excited cause tuesday im leaving on a jet plane to go see the hanson concert in nashville! hahaha. we are nerds, i know, i know. but im happy :D hanson concerts are so much fun! hopefully ill get to meet taylor again and he'll fall in love with me and divorce his wife and we'll run away together and have 18 babies....hey, it could happen! 8)
other than that, c'e niente. im running on fumes here. i need to get back to school.

i hate the war
07.19.04 (10:31 pm) [edit]
some things that cross my mind pertaining to this cluster fuck in the middle east.
1. no one can really give you a straight-forward reason why we are fighting this war.
first it was the weapons of mass destruction. well, there werent any. then, iraq had ties to al-quaida. but that was disproven.
2. none of the high jackers on 9/11 were iraqi.
yeah, i dont think a lot of people know that. its easy for rednecks to think an arab is an arab and the valiant americans should be over there fighting this heathen enemy, but unfortunately its not that clean-cut. if we really wanna get into specifics, 19 out of the 20 high jackers were saudis. why dont you think bush goes after their government? its a smelly, corrupt pile of shit. well, frankly, they are too powerful and economically important. he kisses their ass, and they kiss ours, in the interest of money and oil. so we arent, and never were, getting to the root of this terrorism problem. could it be that we are fighting this war for other reasons?
3. its easy to blame the whole thing on islam.
im not islamic. im not anything. i personally absolutely oppose organized religion (but we wont go there. maybe another day). its just that the average american knows nothing about islam. i cant believe how many people ive spoken to think that muslims worship some foreign deity named allah, denounce the christian god and hate jesus christ. no. thats wrong. islam is based on judaism and christianity. muslims believe in the old testament of the bible. they believe in the same god as christians and jews. they highly revere jesus christ as a prophet. in fact, whenever they say his name, they have to follow it with "peace be upon him". it really burns me when people make the comment that they dont worship god, "they worship some guy named muhammad". they worship and believe in one god. the arabic word for god is allah. muhammad is their prophet. he is not worshipped, but highly revered and respected.
maybe i get really defensive about all this because my dad is islamic, but i guess its a good reason. what im trying to say, and im not just trying to be politically correct here, is that ISLAM IS NOT THE ENEMY. PEOPLE ARE. much like every other religion in the world, evil people have used islam as a means of controlling others and as a means of reaching their political goals. i dont think any american should blame anything on islam until they have learned about what it really is. and in this quest to learn, i am certain that they will find that islam, like every other religion, has just been misused. believe it or not kids, there are decent muslim people out there.
i guess its just hard for me to think that someone might hurt my father, the most righteous man ive ever met, just because hes islamic.
4. the us abuses prisoners.
"yeah but the A-rabs torture and behead our boys". ok thats cool. lets go be just as bad as the terrorists. we might as well. everyday i see us becoming more and more like what we claim to be fighting.
*****
saddam hussein is a scum bag. a dog. a disgusting, slimy, inhumane, putrid excuse for a human being. there is no doubt that he should not have been in power. i just wish we hadnt had to get involved. i believe he was their problem, not ours. and i believe we were mislead into fighting a war that has killed almost 1,000 of our young people, not to mention countless innocent iraqis. now the place is a mess, and there is no way we can back out. somehow, we have to clean up this mess. i just hope that not too many more lives are claimed in the process.

hair disasters and shenanigans at blockbuster
07.16.04 (1:35 am) [edit]
yeah, so, MY HAIR DOESNT LOOK LIKE THAT! its looks like a fucking reddish muddy brown disaster. hahaha. i look like a real piece of work. i am praying to god that we can fix this tomorrow cause i have a jazz gig. :? really, it looks like total shit, lol. oh god.
except for the mess atop my head, today was a good day. i got to spend time with my buddy richard and i amused myself by terrorizing innocents at blockbuster video. shit that sounded bad. i forgot i was arabian for a second. what really happened was i went there in my pajamas, complete with stains all down the front from my taco bell, and really crappy, chemically processed hair and galloped about pretending i was insane. see kids, i dont get out much, and the looks on those middle schoolers faces made my fricking day.
i have problems. :D

and please dont call me blasphemous, but call me an intellectual, a well-read and rational woman.
*ive taken the following from a website of writings by Muhammed Asadi*
"The sixth century Christian philosopher, Boethius, wrote in The Consolation of Philosophy, 'Woman is a temple built upon a sewer.' Bishops in the sixth century council of Macon voted as to whether women had souls. In the tenth century, Odo of Cluny declared, ' To embrace a woman is to embrace a sack of manure.'The thirteenth century St. Thomas Aquinas suggested that God had made a mistake in creating woman: 'Nothing deficient [or defective] should have been produced in the first establishment of things; so women ought not to have been produced then.' And Lutherans at Wittenberg debated whether women were really human beings at all. Orthodox Christians held women responsible for all sin. As the [Roman Catholic] Bible Apocrypha states, 'Of woman came the beginning of sin/ And thanks to her we all must die (Ecclesiasticus 25:13-26).' As 1 Corinthians 7:1 states, "It is a good thing for man to have nothing to do with a woman.'
"1 Corinthians 14:34-35 of the New Testament of the Bible states:
'As in all Churches of the saints, the woman should be subordinate as even the law says...for it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.'
1 Timothy 2:11 states:
'Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or have authority over men. She is to keep silent, for Adam was formed first then Eve, and Adam was not deceived but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.'
1 Corinthians 11:6 says:
' For if a woman will not veil herself then she should cut off her hair, but if it is disgraceful for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her wear a veil...for man was not created from woman but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman but woman for man.'
THE KORAN AND WOMEN:
"'And among God's signs is this: He created for you mates from amongst yourselves (males as mates for females and vice versa) that you might find tranquillity and peace in them. And he has put love and kindness among you. Herein surely are signs for those who reflect (Koran 30:21).'
"Surprisingly egalitarian in its approach, the Koran doesn't agree with the Bible's claim of men being owners of women, neither does it agree with women being created for or from men [as the Bible claims], nor does it say that women cannot teach nor have authority over men. The Koran also dispels the common myth among other religions in general that; a woman is evil by nature and has been created to deceive mankind. The purpose, says that Koran, of mates is that tranquillity and peace emerges through the natural instinct of love and kindness among mates."
* * * * *
im not justifying my dads religion or trying to discredit my mothers. i come from both. the blood of the anglo saxon flows in my veins side by side with the blood of the bedouin warrior. i hold no allegiance to any religious institution (maybe for people like me, its too confusing to). i just think its amazing that there is so much out there that people dont know. people dont know what they so vehemently believe, what they hold so precious. people also dont know what they so vehemently denounce, what they so passionately hate. this goes for christians and muslims. why have christians "changed with the times", disregarding what was written in their holy book? and why have muslims instituted such disgusting, inhumane social practices, disregarding the testament of their holy book? no one can know, its impossible. i guess we can just have faith in god, or whatever, and just learn to love each other. cause really, what else do we have but love?

i am old
07.11.04 (6:52 pm) [edit]
so, i have observed that i am getting old. not physically, not emotionally, but mentally. i am like a 30-year-old woman trapped in a 19-year-old girls body. this doesnt depress me- it intrigues me greatly. ive been noticing these signs:
1. i like HGTV 2. i cry at the site of cute children. literally. i cry. 3. sometimes i honestly forget how old i am (only old people do this) 4. i wish i owned this 5. i love looking at new homes and the thought of buying a cute apartment and fixing it up makes me so excited! 6. i never leave the house, except with my family. 7. i worry about money (wtf??) 8. the idea of partying wears me out and makes me want to hide in my room with the renee fleming schubert album. 9. i constantly think about "my career". i put it before everything else in life. and 10. im considering doing all my shopping from the jc penney catalogue.
